Savory Goat Cheese Bread with Rye Flour
This savory goat cheese bread uses 100% rye flour! Rye flour is an ancient grain, best known for it’s strong flavor. Rye flour pairs well with savory spices, which is why I chose to use it. Goat mozzarella has a mild taste, and it pairs well with savory spices, because it doesn’t overshadow the other flavors in the bread. Goat cheese is also supposed to be less inflammatory and has less calories.
This appetizer is very quick and easy to make! This savory goat cheese bread only takes 30 minutes to make, and has a similar taste to a pizza bread. You can easily transform this recipe into a pizza-esque bread. Feel free to add a couple tablespoons of tomato sauce and pepperoni cut into quarters to turn this goat cheese bread into a pizza bread.
This bread also makes a good, quick breakfast, in my opinion. Dairy? Good! Flour? Good! Milk? Good! Yogurt? Good! I joke, but warmed up bread in the morning is a quick way to feed the kiddos.
The reason I use yogurt in this recipe is due to the fact you need an acidic medium for the baking soda to react to in your recipe. Other appropriate mediums, for example, would be brown sugar, lemon juice, and buttermilk.
Gluten Sensitivities
My specialty is baking with ancient grains. I have members of my family who has sensitivities to wheat. I use these flours to decrease the reaction they have to modern wheat. If you’re a gluten-sensitive person, I recommend asking a nutritional professional about this before trying these ancient grains.
I use other ancient flours on this blog frequently. Check out my other einkorn, spelt, and rye recipes.
Rye may be replaced by any other wheat variety at a one-to-one ratio.
