Chaumes Cheese Pizza Recipe
Introduction
Chaumes cheese pizza is a delicious choice to make for dinner! This cheese was on sale for half off, normally costing almost $20 dollars a pound! I hope I’m not performing some kind of sacrilege by using an expensive French cheese for an Italian recipe…
This is a fast and easy recipe for even beginner to make!
In this recipe, I used a pre-made sourdough crust. If you do not have a crust already, feel free to use one of my other recipes! You can find these recipes here. Just be sure to increase the dough by 1.5 to 2x to make a 9-10 inch pizza!
Pizza Sauce
For this pizza, I used an organic Italian pizza sauce. If you don’t have pizza sauce, you can use substitute tomato sauce with 1/2 tsp of both garlic and onion powder mixed in. Sprinkle some Italian seasoning into it too if you please.
Chaumes
Chaumes is a soft French cheese made from cow’s milk. It is a pasteurized cheese, so it is allowed to be imported to the United States. Raw milk cheeses cannot be sent to the United States if they have aged less than 60 days, so it excludes raw milk soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert.
Chaumes is creamy, nutty, and has a bit of an aftertaste. In addition, it has a somewhat strong aroma that isn’t overbearing.
Separating Chaumes from the rind can be a little tricky. Putting it in the freezer helps to firm the cheese slightly before cutting. This should be done with a straight blade instead of a curved one. Be sure that no rind is left on the cheese.
Next, while you gently cut off new pieces, evenly place the cheese around the pizza.
Toppings
In this recipe, we sprinkle a small amount of chopped onion on top of the sauce. When doing this, it can be advantageous to use your hands to spread the chopped onion spice evenly around the pizza.
In general, fresh ingredients are the best to use whenever making pizza. Fresh, finely chopped onion may be added to the pizza instead of dried ingredients.
