Introduction
This strawberry Brie grilled cheese is the perfect mix between sweet and savory. This sandwich is a real crowd-pleaser, and was even enjoyed by pickier eaters.
Brie
Brie is like Camembert’s creamier, milder cousin. Even though the top difference between Brie and Camembert is the fact that Brie cream added to it, it’s surprising that Camembert is actually the richer of the two. Simply put – during the cheese-making process, Brie has extra cream added to the cheese while Camembert does not. That’s the only real difference in the way it’s made.
Brie, as a creamy & savory soft cheese, is great for creating grilled cheese sandwiches!
For this recipe, we’ll need an 8 oz rind of Brie cheese. For beginners, this soft cheese might be difficult to extract from the rind. The cheese and the rind stick to each other like glue, so you have to freeze for 30 minutes, then cut off with a knife. With some practice, this task will become easy for you to complete.
This WikiHow article is where I learned the technique for removing the rind. In the WikiHow article, the instructions are Brie cheese, but you may use the same technique for a cheese like Camembert. For cutting off the rind, straight blades are superior to using curved blades.
Strawberry Jam
Strawberry jam is a great way to add some pizzazz to the flavor profile of your grilled cheese sandwich. The sweetness interacts with the savoriness of the Brie, and improves the taste significantly.
Bread
In this recipe, I opted to use regular whole wheat bread, but there are alternatives you may use to make your sandwich more flavorful. For example, fresh bread is superior to the bread that sits on the shelves. Buy fresh bread at your local supermarket and have them slice it up for you. Alternatively, breads like rye, pumpernickel, and sourdough are much more flavorful than say, white bread.
